Early Intervention

Late Talkers • Early Communication Skills • Developmental Delays

When it comes to our kids under 3, the world is just opening up to them. But, sometimes, we notice that they aren't opening up to the world. Some children may have difficulty communicating or engaging with the world around them. When your child is experiencing delays in communication, working with a speech therapist can be instrumental in helping them get on track. We blend in-home and clinic-based services to guide you and your child toward building meaningful interactions that lead to meaningful communication!

Parent Workshops

It Takes Two to Talk® — The Hanen Program® for Parents of Children with Language Delays

We are certified instructors for the Hanen course, "It Takes Two to Talk®", a workshop that helps parents become their child's most important teacher. In the course, parents will be given step-by-step guidance from a certified speech therapist on how to help their children learn to communicate. We will focus on using everyday routines to help your child increase interactions and communication so they can use words when they're ready. Parents will also have a chance to connect with other parents of "late talkers."

Speech Therapy

Articulation • Phonological Delays & Disorders • Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Speech therapy will help your child learn how to say new speech sounds and sound patterns for clearer speech. We also believe in teaching kids about what they are doing to help them develop a greater knowledge of the sounds in our language and how they are made.

During our speech therapy sessions, we will use games, repetitive practice, parent coaching, and home practice to help your child clearly and confidently share their ideas with the world!

Language Therapy

Receptive Language • Expressive Language • Social Communication

Children who struggle with using and/or understanding language or social skills will benefit from our play-based language therapy. We combine fun activities with direct instruction and parent coaching to help your child develop skills such as following directions, asking and answering questions, engaging in conversation, improving their grammar, and more! As your child learns new language skills, they will begin to confidently engage at home, school, and wherever they are in the world.

MEET your speech therapist

Selah Powell, M.S., CCC-SLP

Owner,Speech-Language Pathologist

Selah is a pediatric speech therapist that is passionate about working with young children and their families. After working with children in the public schools and private clinics, Selah was inspired to open Joined on the Journey Speech and Langauge Therapy, where she can provide highly personalized services that build upon each child's unique strengths.

Gaining a thorough understanding of each family’s strengths and challenges is Selah’s first priority.

She has a unique way of building relationships with families and communicating with parents in a way that they truly feel like they understand their child. Each child’s goals are written with the entire family in mind, recognizing that there may be some specific communication challenges in the home that need to be targeted during speech therapy sessions.

When not playing in therapy, Selah is typically outside somewhere in the sunshine — still playing! She enjoys skiing, playing frisbee golf, biking, snowshoeing, and foraging with her partner - Steve, her family, and her friends.

Attend an Evaluation Session

We will begin with an evaluation of your child's communication. You will receive a report that we will also review with you so that you are aware of your child's specific areas of strength and weakness. Together we will determine our first goals for therapy.

Let's play and grow together!

Client Testimonials

Selah taught me how to be a better parent and mentor for my child!

"Michael knew less than 5 words when we started…I learned how much language development occurs from interaction. Selah taught me that kids need context and learn best when they can touch and feel and engage with the language they are learning…she taught me how to be a better parent and mentor for my child! She was always patient, kind, positive, and encouraging. I can’t thank her enough for what she has done!”
